Mendocino-native and a gardener since his childhood, Matt moved to San Francisco to study design in 1990. He co-founded Pennsylvania Street Garden, a community garden in Potrero Hill with wife Annie Shaw.

Matt’s gardening aesthetic focuses on terraced rock beds and undulating landscapes paired with contrasting and complimentary low water plant combinations. A few favorites are: Agave parryi, Echium pininana (pictured) and Aloe ‘Hercules.’ He also loves pretty much every Yucca.
